How can we really reform habits or stick to good works?
Whatever you want to achieve this New Year there are a few key rules to making it happen:
Do what you want
First work out what you want to do – not what others think you should do, not what you should stop doing, but what you actually want to do.
Plan
Then, make a plan – work out how you are going to do it. Almost anything worth doing will be something you can’t achieve all at once in a single act, it will be a process. So break your resolution into manageable chunks. Work out what you need to do to achieve each element and when you will do this by. Write this down – notes in your diary or to-do list, a spreadsheet or use the Resolution Revolution website to create your resolution and set your schedule.
Think big… but wisely
Be realistic. Make a good resolution, but keep it simple, measurable and achievable.
Socialise!
Telling your friends and family what you are going to do helps make it concrete and they may either be able to help with your resolution, or want to make one themselves. Facebook could be great for this. Use this network for support if things don’t go as planned and to help keep you motivated.
Expect setbacks
Things don’t always work out quite how we thought they would, but don’t beat yourself up about it. Don’t let setbacks deter you, because if you’re doing something worth doing you will almost certainly face some setbacks. Let us know how you get on and don’t forget to reward yourself for making it happen.
